Fishing

Särkisalo is an excellent fishing spot. The waters offer a variety of species all year round. The main fish in the area are pike, pike perch, perch, sea trout, whitefish, and herring. Särkisalo is particularly famous for its large pike catches and some of the largest pike in Finland have been caught in Särkisalo waters.

Finland has a system of fishing fees based on the Fisheries Act. As a result, fishermen aged between 18 and 64 who are engaged in fishing other than angling are required to pay a fisheries management fee to the State. The fisheries management fee is required if you are 18–69 years of age and will be fishing with lures or traps or crayfishing. The fisheries management fee entitles you to fish using one rod.

Trout with adipose fin

  • Completely protected in all sea areas
  • Trout without adipose fin
  • At least 50 cm
  • Protection period: Protected between 1.9.–30.11. in rivers and streams.

Salmon

  • At least 60 cm
  • In recreational fishing anglers may catch 2 salmon/day/person
  • Protection period: Protected between 1.9.–30.11. in rivers and streams.

Whitefish

  • No minimum catch size.
  • Protection period: Protected between 1.9.–30.11. in rivers and streams that run into sea.

Pike-perch

  • At least 42 cm.
  • Protection period: No protection period

European crayfish, signal crayfish, narrow-clawed crayfish

  • At least 10cm
  • Protection period (all crayfish): 1.11.–21.7., until noon.
